Al Goss
(1941-2010)

 On March, 17, 2010, the aviation community lost a pilot, a competitor, and a plane. But most of all, Minter Field lost a friend. Al Goss was a familiar face to all of us at Minter Field. Al was always very generous with his time and his plane, "Warlock", whenever the Museum needed him. We celebrated with Al when he won the Reno Air Race in 2004, and we will celebrate his life at the Fly In on Saturday with a special Missing Man formation, performed by the AT-6 Condor Squadron at 12 Noon.

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
